I got my first bass when I was 15, and that was 23 years ago. With the exception of a brief pause in 2009 due to injury, I have been playing and recording with bands for almost all of that time. My current main bass is a Warwick Thumb 6 string which I've had since 2003, (and will probably follow me to my grave.) I also have a Spector 4 string, a Cort Curbow 4 string, an Aria acoustic 4 string, a Warwick Vampyre custom shop 5 string, a Tanglewood Warrior 4 string, gear acquisition syndrome and a seemingly always empty wallet. I am currently looking for a Status Series 2 headless bass as I used to have one in the late 90's and now wish I'd never sold it!

I've often been asked 'What was your best moment as a musician?' but it's almost impossible to pick one particular moment out of so many. However, I do really love the feel you get on stage when everything is just 'right' and the band is performing as a single entity rather than a group of individual musicians. I also get a massive kick out of studio work as this gives me the oppurtunity to really explore the available options.

I've played with quite a list of previous bands as you can see, and they can pretty much all fit loosly into the 'rock' genre (most have been on the lighter / MOR side of it.) There were a few exceptions to this such as Edens Plain which was an 80s covers band, Red Hot Radiators was a blues band and Adam Moore who is a singer/songwriter with quite an eclectic mix of folk, jazz and rock influences. Almost every band I have ever been in has written and recorded original music alongside covers, but the originals have almost always been more satisfying to perform. I love playing with complex arrangements and varying time signatures, but have not had much oppurtunity to explore this within my band history and so it has remained a method of personal development up until now.

I love variety in music, and I don't actually have a 'favourite' song or band as it varies depending upon my mood. However, if I were pressed to pick a top 5 for a desert island style selection it would currently be:

Of course, I'd like to have the 'Forgotten Sons' by Marillion, 'Rainbow' by Eloy, 'Rio' by Duran Duran and 'Rime of the ancient mariner' by Iron Maiden amongst many others as well but I had to make a choice! Whilst many may find it enjoyable, I have little time for the modern style of manufactured chart music.

Aside from music, I have been with my wife for 15 years now, and we've been married for 6 of those. We don't have any children, but we do have 4 chickens, 4 cats, and a horse named Thomas which is more than enough! I am an electronics engineer by trade and have been in my current job for 14 years designing accessories for electron microscopes. I'm a complete geek and love tinkering with computers, kit cars, and old broken electronics amongst all sorts of other odd things, and I can often be found in my workshop in the small hours of the morning writing music, fixing XBoxes and guitar amplifiers, creating microprocessor code to achieve some obscure task, or attacking a Land Rover chassis with an angle grinder.

I hope that this brief website gives you a glimpse of who I am as a person as well as a bass guitarist, and I look forward to the future and whatever it may bring.

Ed.
